Asleep

I watch you as you sleep
I catch you in the most honest state you'll ever be
No one lies in their slumber, do they?
I see your eyes twitching even as they're closed
Are you dreaming, my dear?
Of what used to make you weep?
Or is the present haunting you?
Do you dream of past pain...
And seek vengeance when you're awake?

I watch you as you sleep
And my eyes grew heavy
Not from fatigue but weakness
If I look at you a second more...
Tears will fall
And I will not let that happen
As light leaves my eyes
I was rendered helpless as I lean in for a kiss
Whispering, "I think I am addicted to you, how now?"
Hoping you never hear those words escape my lips

And I fall asleep
Restless...
